We will be using this blog to share content for the first half of this course. The content is organised weekly by session in pages. Each session will typically comprise one theoretical and one practical section.
Session contents were developed to be presented in class by instructors, but also to support self-study. We require you to read relevant pages in advance to be better prepared for in-class practical exercises.
We will be using this course blog in conjunction with Edimensions, the SUTD Blackboard platform. You will upload assignments for grading through Edimensions.
We have set up a Microsoft Team for the Computational Thinking for Design course. We will use Microsoft Teams primarily to disseminate course information and instructions and occasionally, for online teaching when needed. Announcements for the entire cohort will be posted on the "General" channel. We have also set up sub-channels for instructors or Teaching Assistants to post cohort specific content. Please check Teams regularly.
Course sessions are conduced in a design workshop format. Student must come to class with their laptops and follow the hands-on interactive sessions. Please contact the course lead (jason_lim@sutd.edu.sg)in advance if you do not have a laptop, we will try to provide you with one for the duration of the course.
You will be prompted to create a Rhino account before you can download the software.
SUTD provides network Rhino licenses for students, so you do not need to purchase your own. However, you will need to be connected to SUTD network in order to check out these licenses. When starting Rhino for the first time, you should see a "Welcome to Rhino" window like the image above. Agree to the EULA and privacy policy then click on "Options" and select "Use the LAN Zoo".
For additional detailed instructions, please refer to the following guide prepared by SUTD IT. Even though it refers to Rhino 5, the same steps apply for Rhino 7.
Students are encouraged to raise questions and participate in discussions. Instructors will set aside time to answer them. Teaching assistants are available to provide help immediately as well. In addition, students may reach out to their instructors or TAs for additional help outside of class time, but please request this in advance (via email).
Students who are unable to attend physical sessions due to medical issues must inform their instructors and provide a medical certificate. Instructors may stream their physical sessions using Teams to cater to students who are listening in remotely.
We will be using Rhino a 3D modeller developed by McNeel for this course. The latest version of this software is Rhino 8, which was released recently. However, we recommend that you download Rhino 7 [] instead as we have not tested all our programs on the newest version and SUTD only provides licenses for version 7.
